‘Dogs 1-10’ is an edition of one

Each page is a response to the sounds of different dogs only heard and never seen, on the island of Mallorca. Each book is a record of a particular day. They are a record of the call and response that echoes throughout the island for brief moments of time that are never to be repeated

The sounds were recorded on a Tascam sound machine and transcribed into typewriter text on an Olivetti Lettera 32. The Tascam files were then deleted, only the text remains

This piece was made during a month long residency at CCA Andratx. I worked in a large studio, where the sound of the typewriter echoed around the cavernous and near-empty room, and so in turn became a mimic, punctuating the echo of the dogs, but within an interior space, disrupting the silence; again only to be re-enacted once
